Officially Licensed USMC VMFA-231 Ace of Spades PVC Glow Patch

Officially Licensed USMC VMFA-231 Ace of Spades PVC Glow Patch - Marine Fighter Attack Squadron 231 (VMFA-231), the Ace of Spades, officially licensed PVC glow patch with hook-and-loop backing.

Over a century of Marine aviation identity, a card-suit emblem that has never needed an introduction, and a glow feature that keeps the Ace visible long after the lights go out.

The Ace of Spades lineage reaches back to 8 February 1919, when the unit stood up in Miami, Florida as the 1st Division, Squadron 1, making it the oldest flying squadron in the Marine Corps. The iconic insignia was designed by then-2nd Lieutenant Hayne D. Boyden, who chose the ace to signify primacy and used the letters A and S to represent Air and Squadron, creating what became the first official unit insignia in Marine Corps aviation history. Based at Marine Corps Air Station Cherry Point, North Carolina under Marine Aircraft Group 14 and the 2nd Marine Aircraft Wing, the squadron flew AV-8B Harrier II jets through decades of expeditionary operations, supporting Desert Shield, Desert Storm, Allied Force, Odyssey Dawn, Inherent Resolve, and Prosperity Guardian before completing its final Harrier flight in May 2025. The squadron is reactivating as VMFA-231 in fiscal year 2026, carrying the Ace of Spades forward into the F-35B Lightning II era. The PVC glow construction gives the emblem a durable, field-ready profile that holds detail on gear panels, flight bags, jackets, and shadow boxes while the glow element adds a distinctive low-light presence that sets this patch apart from standard PVC formats.

Perfect for Marine aviation veterans, VMA-231 and VMFA-231 alumni, Harrier and F-35B community members, MAG-14 and 2nd Marine Aircraft Wing collectors, MCAS Cherry Point supporters, aviation historians, patch panel builders, shadow box displays, reunion gifts, and anyone who wants a piece tied to the oldest and most storied emblem in Marine Corps aviation. It also suits family members and supporters who want a clean, officially licensed tribute to the pilots, maintainers, and ground crews who kept the Ace of Spades flying across more than a hundred years of Marine aviation history.

The oldest card in Marine aviation, officially licensed, built to glow, and made to last.
