Official Training Wing 5 TW-5 Avon Park Winter Det Patch
Winter det in Florida — where the training is tough but the weather isn't.
Training Wing 5 (TW-5) conducts advanced strike fighter training for student naval aviators progressing through the jet training pipeline. The Avon Park Winter Detachment sends TW-5 students and instructors to the Avon Park Air Force Range in central Florida for weapons delivery training and tactical exercises that cannot be conducted at the home field. The "Winter Det" name carries a distinctly tongue-in-cheek tone — while other military units endure brutal winter conditions, TW-5's winter detachment takes place in sunny Florida, a fact that is not lost on the student pilots and instructors who participate. This patch commemorates the detachment with the humor that defines naval aviation training culture.
Perfect For:
TW-5 instructors and students, Avon Park detachment alumni, naval aviation training command personnel, strike fighter training enthusiasts, and morale patch collectors.
Winter det in Florida — it's a tough job, but someone's got to do it.
