Hand-Painted Plum Fruit Porcelain Limoges Box
Hand-Painted Plum Fruit Porcelain Limoges Box
Round, ripe and ready to pick, a single plum sits here with all the color of late summer in the orchard. It is a hand-painted porcelain Limoges box made in Limoges, France, the town where this craft took root.
Picked at Peak Ripeness
Painters in Limoges build up the color of fruit in layers, so the skin shows the depth you would expect from a real plum just off the branch. The shape is simple and honest, which is part of the charm: nothing distracts from the fruit itself.
Orchard Rows
Fruit boxes are some of the easiest to collect in a series. Start with this plum, then add a pear, a peach, an apple or a cluster of cherries, and before long a china cabinet shelf looks like a market stall in Provence. A single plum also stands well on its own in a breakfast nook or on a kitchen windowsill.
