Antique Howland & Co. Molding Plane – New York Carpenter's Tool
Antique Howland & Co. Molding Plane – New York Carpenter's Tool
Step back into the golden age of woodworking with this late 1800s antique molding plane made by Howland & Co. of New York. Crafted during a time when skilled tradesmen relied on specialized hand tools to create decorative architectural details, this primitive molding plane is both a functional piece of woodworking history and a desirable collector's item.
Measuring approximately 10 inches long by 6 inches wide by 5 inches tall, this plane features wooden side knobs that function as an adjustable fence, allowing the craftsman to maintain consistent spacing while producing decorative moldings and trim work. The design reflects the ingenuity and craftsmanship of the era, when custom profiles were created by hand rather than by modern machinery.
The aged wooden body displays the character and patina that collectors seek in authentic antique tools. Whether displayed in a tool chest, workshop, country home, or primitive collection, this molding plane offers a tangible connection to the craftsmen who helped build homes, furniture, and architectural details more than a century ago.
An excellent addition for collectors of antique woodworking tools, primitive Americana, early carpentry equipment, and New York-made hand tools.
